And I say that because what you have seen the Trump administration do is through executive orders and executive actions starting on Jan. 20. The Department of Health and Human Services has abruptly canceled more than $12 billion in federal grants to states that were being used for tracking infectious diseases, mental health services, addiction treatment and other urgent health issues.

The cuts are likely to further hamstring state health departments, which are already underfunded and struggling with competing demands from chronic diseases, resurgent infections like syphilis and emerging threats like bird flu.

State health departments began receiving notices on Monday evening that the funds, which were allocated during the Covid-19 pandemic, were being terminated, effective immediately.

Obviously, this administration is not even acting like any other business or health organization, but with some sort of rogue criminal -- an "enemy within". This is not what would be happening normal, healthy democracy -- if there were to be cuts involved and were necessary, there would be some consultation with the states involved and the organizations' leadership, there would be a transition period to communicate the changes and to determine their impacts to avoid undue problems, trauma or health effects. #ShameOnTrump #StopCoup #infectiousdiseases #measles #birdflu #pandemic #RFKJR2024

Long waits, waves of calls, website crashes: Social Security is breaking down
A flood of cuts led by Elon Musk has sent the agency into chaos as a new commissioner prepares to take charge.
• Staff cuts of 7,000
• Closing of 47 field offices; 10 regional offices slashed to 4
• Less customer support by phone-could take hours to talk to a live person
• Effective March 31, Americans will not be able to use the phone to sign up for Social Security benefits or make major changes to their accounts that require ID verification. The changes will apply to new Social Security applications and to existing recipients who want to change their direct deposit information. New claimants must verify their identity by using Social Security's online site or visit a field office and wait in line.
